East Garston cricket club was
the brainchild of the late Roy Hunt, who lived for
many years in The Burfords. Roy was a member of the
Wantage 41 club, a club formed from retiring round
table members. He arranged a match between themselves
and a scratch team from East Garston, both the said
teams consisting of players all in excess of forty
years of age. Every year since, this match has been
played out with the winners receiving the “Roy
Hunt Trophy” presented by Roy’s widow,
Jill. This year - (2008) -
we have a fixture list of 23 games, some played on
Thursday evenings and the rest on Sunday afternoons.
We have no pitch of our own as yet, so “Home”
matches are played at one of two alternative locations,
namely Letcombe Regis or at Woodlands-St-Mary.
