We are a little bit
out of sequence with this one so I apologise to Alan for that.
These pictures serve as a reminder of the great time we had
on that evening back in March. I know he doesn't remember
much about it, but now at least Alan has proof that it did happen
~ he did attend and above all else he did enjoy being among
his friends and relations. Great Stuff. |

With the sad demise of the village
shop, a timely reminder to all residents in and around our
village, that there are a number of independent people already
supplying goods to villages along the valley. Jamie Wayman,
and Peter & Cherie Ireland are at your service for the
supply of life's basic essentials and very much hope that
the services they offer will
help local villagers, especially the elderly, to get the items
they need delivered locally to their front door.

Well ~ as they say ~ here we go again,
.
I have just been re-elected as chairman for another year this
being my third in a row, and I am happy to report that the club
has gone from strength to strength throughout this time. So
much so in fact, that we now have eight people who do the bar
on a regular basis, and we can also call on two other members
should they be needed.
In addition to the many new faces now enjoying the facilities
the social club has to offer, we have seen a marked, and very
welcome increase in the re-appearance of more familiar faces
from within the community. Word has certainly gotten around
the village regarding the friendly staff and convivial atmosphere
you now get on a visit to the club. On offer we have a fully
stocked bar, pool table, dart board and a full sized snooker
table in a newly refurbished games room. I must give Raymond
Baker all credit for the work he has carried out within in the
games room. Please feel free to come in and see for yourself.
After many years of being without a darts team, we have finally
managed to put a new team together. They play in the Lambourn
Valley Darts League. This season was the first they played
together and the team finished fifth in the League, and also
won two trophies.

Patronage of the village hall has also
spiralled upwards, with the bookings increasing greatly due
to the refurbishment of the hall in the shape of a new fitted
kitchen, new ceiling and lighting. We have also completely
redecorated the exterior, and I think you would all agree
that a major improvement in its appearence has been achieved.
Our future plans include the annual
summer dance, halloween fancy dress party, the over 60's Christmas
lunch, and of course, our ever popular Christmas bingo. Check
out more future events on the website, or on our notice board,
as an when they occur.
I would like to say a big thank you
to all who help run the social club and give up their time
for FREE. Please come along and support
your local social club.....Finally
it would not be possible to do all the advertising and such
on the website without the help of Ken Tarbox, to whom
we are extremely grateful
Alan Money (Chairman).

Tuesday the 15th of April at the Annual
Parish Meeting, Chris Tonge (Chairman) presented outgoing
Clerk, Joanne Rabbitts with a framed photo of School Lane as
a token of appreciation for all her work with the Parish Council.
Chris said "Joanne has worked tirelessly on the Council’s
behalf for nine years and has managed to keep the council in
order ~ and produce minutes of our meetings, which in no way
reflected the utter chaos in which most of the them were carried
out – Dibley Parish Council has nothing on us!!. Many
thanks Joanne for all your efforts". Chris added "I
would like also to take this opportunity of welcoming Alan Breadmore
who has now taken up the post of Clerk".

The annual East Garston Cheltenham Preview which this year was
held in the British Legion Club, Lambourn on Saturday 8th March
was once again a great success.
The 'experts' panel consisted of Pat Murphy (Trainer in East
Garston) Colin Brown (ex Desert Orchid Jockey now tipster) Stan
Moore (Trainer in Lambourn) Phil Smith (Senior Handicapper)
Philip Hobbs (Trainer in Somerset, who has several runners at
the Festival), Andrew Thornton (Jockey - unfortunately injured
in a nasty fall recently so out of the saddle for several months).
The Preview was very ably chaired by Ed James (Ex Jockey and
Trainer)
Around 90 people attended
the evening and as always spent an enjoyable and interesting
evening listening to what the 'experts' considered were the
best bets for the meeting.

With
the help of a raffle for a £100 bet with William Hill,
to be spent at one of the races during the Festival, a total
of £500 was raised for The Injured Jockeys Fund.Among
those attending was 90 year old Jack Dowdeswell who was Champion
Jockey in 1947. Jack is the oldest living person ever to be

Many of you will no
doubt have seen The Lorne Hill Quilting mailers on the village
notice boards.
What the notice boards can't show you is the consistantly stunning
work that Joanne Rabbitts produces. |
| Joanne,
in association with Sandra Kidwell, runs a quilting workshop
at Lorne Hill on a regular basis. So if you are interested in
either purchasing or commisioning a quilt, or finding out more
about the actual making of them, then you can find every thing
you need to know on Lorne Hill Quilts own website. Please click

Saturday
the 26th of January at 8am on the dot, Charlie Baker from
BBC Radio Berkshire was back in the village featuring more of
our community activities broadcast live to the whole of Berkshire.
If you are an avid follower of this website, you will
already know that Charlie came here to cover the Children's
nativity play on December the 22nd last year. This time however,
it was the turn of the bellringers to take centre stage.
