Service of Remembrance - 2011

Preceded by the sound of half muffled bells rung by our own band of bellringers, the Remembrance Service at the War Memorial on the 12th of November was conducted by The Revd Christopher Ardagh-Walter and was well attended – about 80 people, again with the Wantage Youth Silver Band playing a very significant part. This service was introduced by The Revd Tony Cumberlidge, soon after he arrived in the Lambourn Valley back in 2004.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of The Royal British Legion, (Col Marcus Coombs) - East Garston Parish Council (Chairman Jonathan Rabbitts) and All Saints Church, East Garston (Churchwarden Sally Wright).

Laurence Binyon’s Lines were given by Col Marcus Coombs and the Kohima Epitaph by Terence Butler, formerly Sgt PWRR.

Remembrance is not about glorifying war. It’s about remembering those who did their very best in frightening and dangerous circumstances for the sake of their community and their country
