Christmas Lunch

The over 60s Christmas Lunch 2008

Sunday the 14th of  December and the annual over 60s Christmas lunch was upon us once again. Qualifying clientele for this rather special and highly popular event increases yearly, and indeed it now counts several octogenarians amongst its patronage.
The session started with a contingent of youngsters from "East Garston Kids Club" singing a selection of Traditional Carols. In conclusion, two of the older lads ~ much to the sheer enjoyment of a very attentive audience ~ recited a humorous Carol. The annual Christmas lunch is normally held in the Village Hall but due to unforeseen circumstances the event was transferred into the Social Club. We catered for a distinguished clientele of thirty-two, and all seemed to enjoy the three course lunch ~ and the now traditional, Christmas raffle.
The funds for today's event were raised by the Social Club's regular patrons, to whom I offer my grateful thanks. I would personally like to thank Martin and Sarah Digweed and Wendy Money, who oversaw the preparation and cooking of the meal. Also, my thanks to Janet Palmer for preparing the vegetables.
A special thank you to Sarah Gibbard and Wendy Smith who stepped in at the 11th hour to man the bar with Raymond Baker. It is surprising how many people pull together under difficult circumstances. Others I must thank are Becky Money, Jade Digweed and Hayden Fairchild.  Their excellent help with serving at table was invaluable. They did do us all proud. Thank you to the Carol Singers and to all who came along on the day. Heres to next year's shindig.
