Well as we all now know, Chris and Dawn have retired after a quarter of a century of service, not only to the village of East Garston but to most of the out-lying hamlets and farms as well. That old Cliché..."The End of an Era"..is something we hear a lot these days, but this is one case where it is without doubt a 100% accurate summarization.

It was decided that this occasion simply could not be allowed to pass without a fitting tribute to Dawn and Chris in recognition of all the hard work and long hours they have put into providing us with a local village shop. There is also the staunch support for the community events that both have given time and effort so freely too over the years..

Organised by a committe of four; - Monica Eyre, Wendy Highnett, Joanne Rabbitts and Peter Crofton-Atkins - the event was a resounding success. Gay Kindersley read a poem that he himself had penned especially for the occasion covering past ..."Happenings"...within the village that had directly involved one or both of our two celebrities. A gift certificate for a summer-house value £2000 was then presented by Peter Crofton-Atkins on behalf of the village as a token of the thanks and affection these two special people so richly deserve.
