The Big Lunch

| Imagine
a summer’s day on which millions of us, throughout the UK, sit down
to have lunch together – in the middle of our streets, around our
estates, In our villages and on every patch of common ground.
The food, entertainment and decorations
we have grown, cooked, or created ourselves. A day to have lunch
with our neighbours, a day to enjoy an informal gathering right
across the age range. |

| Initially
the weather was a little overcast, but there being little sign of
rain, the desicion was made to set up in the village hall car park,
rather than hold the event in the Hall itself.
A B-B-Q was made available to anyone that wished to use it
but in the interests of safety, Chris took on the voluntary role
of head chef. |

| A selection
of entries to the various catagories of home produced items
which were judged on the day by our faithful panel of scrutineers. Dave Lee tells us that his "Robin Hood Roundabout Scrumpy" was produced using apples collected from the infamous Newbury roundabout. He said it with a straight face but.....! |

| Returning
to the great outdoors once again to find bright sunshine, and the
air filled with the tempting aroma of B-B-Q'd food. |

the "Ketchup Bottle" might be a good submission for the
2011 "Turner Prize"
Well come on ~ It's more recognisable as art than most of the rubbish that wins. |

| All
part and parcel of the Big Lunch is that of home grown talent. The
performances are made even more special as the artists who take
the stage are so very young. I won't include names but we
were entertained by a fine collection of musicians and dancers ,
all from local families. |

| This
was, as it set out to be, a thoroughly enjoyable friendly affair.
Proceeds from raffles and competition entry fees made a total
of £168. There is a survey currently being undertaken
by the National Big Lunch Organizers
via the Survey Monkey website.
They would like the Big Lunch to become an annual occasion.
