We were delighted to have secured the services of Wantage Youth Silver Band. This local band, demonstrated their skills admirably and kept us musically entertained throughout the afternoon. Music it would seem wasn't their only forte, towards the end of the afternoon, the musicians pitched into the Tug-O'-War competition with absolute gusto, much to the pleasure of all who were watching. |

Craft
stalls play a very important part in the proceedings of any fete
and this year was no exception. |

East
Garston Resident Dave Knight had researched and catalogued the history
of the names on the village War Memorial, and presented the resultant
information to all, in an easy to digest, and interesting manner.
Dave's work will be added to this website under the "History"
section, just as soon as time allows. |

Comment
from some of our visiting Morris friends - "What a laugh -
the dog show where the judge awarded first prize to his own dog
and another dog kept pulling a child over, the sumo wrestling with
the competitors rolling around unable to get up, Joanne and Jonathon’s
dirty vegetables, eating sticky chocolate cakes and the highlight
was watching Garston Gallopers and chatting to them. What a lovely
lot! “ |

A
few plaudits received suggest other villages in the valley are envious
of activities available in our village and one outsider who came
for a walk in the area said
- “There was a village fair going on at the village hall, so we
thought we would pop in for a bit, and ended up staying for hours.
Mr x appreciated the well-kept Ramsbury ales in the beer tent, and
Mrs x tried some of the pickles in the craft tent. Junior x took
part in the children's races, bought a couple of Captain Underpants
books and enjoyed dancing with the Morris dancers”

We
are very grateful to the many people and organisations who have
made such generous contributions to our Fete. We cannot list
them all, but particular thanks go to: PJS, The Hare, Franchi Seeds,
David Comyn, Julie Pennycook, Newbury Racecourse, West Berks Golf
Club, The Pheasant, Roberta of Hungerford, Ambitions Riding
centre, Deanwood Park Golf Course, Hungerford Scouts and the Football
Club, and all those that baked cakes, donated produce, placed advertisments,
helped with marquees, sold raffle tickets, delivered flyers etc.
Most importantly, all of you who came to support us on the
day. - Thank you all very much! |
