The Village race

12th September 2010

Numbers were well down for the village race this year, but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm of those that did enter. The race itself kicked off at 11.30, following directly on from the classic car parade. Once again Mick Highnett was in charge of registration for the race and of the presentations afterwards.
Although there were several excellent depictions within the supporters, Runners in fancy dress came down to just one this year. Massive respect for Gordon Swapp who entered the fray wearing a very heavy Sumo Wrestler suit. I know just how heavy this was as I helped remove him from it after the race. All power to you Gordon.
Heads turned towards the West, looking for the first runners to appear, we didn't have long to wait. Andy Colling and Andrew James battle it out, but Andy Colling took the lead in the last few yards, crossing the line first.
A moment of drama as Gordon takes a tumble on the final approach, but with a helping hand, he was soon back on his feet, finishing the race in style. Well done Gordon, - although I think it would be best to wear something a little less weighty next year.
The 2010 race winners were Andy Colling (Adults) - and the (Juniors) cup was collected by Archie Parks. All entrants received medals.
