Village
Cleanup Day
On Sunday 17th at 10 am over twenty residents met in the village hall car park, some old, some new but not many young!! We donned high-viz jackets (well some did) and with our litter pickers, courtesy of West Berkshire Council, walked the roads and the river.
It is pleasing to be able to report that not much litter was found, well done residents. A bulb planting gang armed with daffodil bulbs and trowels were despatched to the area at the bottom of the village which was cleared last winter. Hopefully there will be a good show of flowers in the Spring for everyone to enjoy.
A tree which had fallen into the river behind ‘Baggers’ was removed and some branches and other debris found in the river bed were also cleared away.
I would like to remind residents it is an offence to put grass cuttings or garden refuse into the river whether it is flowing or not. Many thanks to everyone who helped and also to PJS for allowing us to use their skip for the disposal of the rubbish.

Quilt
for the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
Five volunteers joined Sandra Kidwell and Joanne Rabbitts at Lorne Hill
Farm, East Garston, to
make a quilt for the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
Dr Abigail Macleod, who works in paediatric palliative care at the hospital, contacted the craft workshop when she decided she wanted a quilt for the children she cares for. Sandra and Joanne thought it was a wonderful idea and asked ladies who regularly attend workshops at Lorne Hill Farm if they would be interested in helping.
Fabrics in pinks and purple were donated, and Jackie Breadmore, Barbara Lacey-Smith, Sandra Cook and Lindsay Hardy spent a day with Joanne and Sandra making more than eighty blocks - a task made easier by the delicious lunch and refreshments provided by Dawn Tonge. Over the next few weeks the blocks were stitched together to make a beautiful quilt, which was finally finished and presented to Dr Macleod on Tuesday.
Dr Macleod said the quilt would be so important to the families of the girls she cares for and all the ladies felt it was a privilege to work on such a project. |
