Summer Dance

East Garston Social Club 2009

This year's village summer dance was attended by a tad short of 100 people, and just for a change, the weather was very obliging to us. We were entertained, in what can only be described as a most friendly, extremely professional way, by "The Fat Cats".

Fat Cats are a country band playing old favourites and new hits – everything from Willie Nelson to Lonestar and Diamond Rio.
There was also a sprinkling of  "Eagles" music in the mix– along with many self-penned compositions.
This was the first outdoor summer dance since the installation of the Social Club's new Patio and french doors, and such was the demand to be part of it ~ extra tables and chairs had to be pressed into service very early on in the evening.
The Fat Cats have played Lakeside Country Club, Earls Court (for CMT / Sky TV) ~ Dutch international music festival,
Channel 5 TV ~ Most UK Festival's, Germany, France, Spain,as well as country clubs all over the UK.
The Fat Cats played to the audience from a forty foot trailer positioned opposite the new shop and adjacent to the Social Club, this gave the evening a continental piazza type feel ~ with soft illuminations and coloured lights adding to the general ambience.
Ray Baker was once again at the helm of the BBQ, helped in this instance by Lorraine Cooper and Deana Carpenter, he worked feverishly to feed his lengthy queue of eager customers.       (Below right) ~Danny, Peter and Matt on gate duty.
The Fat Cats left to right ~ Lionel, Phil, Slim and Andy
Slim replaced by Julie.
Familiar faces and new faces.   (Top left) ~ Jane Green whom I wish to thank for allowing the inclusion of several of her photographs, and of course that evergreen, staunch supporter of the Social Club, Ray Hobbs, who returned to the village for the evening.

The final word from Social Club Chairman, Alan Money.
Thanks to all who helped out on the night, (you all know who you are).    I would however, like to give a special mention to Colin Smith for orginising this years summer dance for the Social Club. He did a fantastic job making the night a great success. It was also nice to welcome amongst our own local supporters, a large number of new faces.  Subsequent feedback has proved beyond doubt that everyone enjoyed the event immensely. Well done Colin!! ~ Finally, a big thank you to Ken who, with his camera, did a great job AGAIN.
