Wedding Party Day

Party in the Park April 29th 2011

On the 29th April 2011, people across the length and breadth of the UK marked the royal wedding with street parties, picnics and other festivities.   Street parties are a great tradition which have for a century been linked with royal and other national events.

Masterminded by Freddie Tulloch, East Garston's own celebrations took place in the centre of the village, situated in the "Open Space" park area and safely out of the way of any form of traffic. The event kicked off at 3pm and, as you will see from the following array of photos, it was well received by those in attendance.
East Garston’s finest chefs cranked up the barbie.   Burgers/hot dogs/fresh fruit salad/strawberries and cream were on offer.
The youngsters were invited to dress up as Princes and Princesses - with a prize awarded to the judges choice.

After the judges had made their decision - The Prince and Princess of the day were driven around the village in a horse drawn carraige, followed on foot by their loyal subjects.
Parents and friends enjoy a chat and a drink, while the children prepare for some very competitive races.

The Party

The tea party itself played host to 75 children and was served up in traditional street party style, on one very long table.

Garston Gallopers

To close the event we were treated to a performance from our own Garston Gallopers, and with the early evening sunshine enhancing the costumes of this colourful, and very active Morris Side, it's time for a fitting word of thanks to all who oganised, publicised, and took part in this village celebration of the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
