The
village’s Local History Society held a well-attended first meeting
in the Village Hall on Friday 28 May. A talk was given by Lesley Dunlop
from the Thames Valley Environmental Centre and Judy Colley of the
Berkshire Geoconservation Group on Local Geology, Land Use and Village
Building Styles and the speakers distributed pamphlets on a number
of connected topics as well as a sheet giving some comments about
the village’s older houses. We learned amongst other things
that our local chalk was deposited over 30 million years ago at a
rate of 10cm ( 4” in old money) every 1,000 years. |
