Julie gets what she wants!
| One of the suggestions that Julie Rodbourn made on her survey form was to increase the range of more basic, lower price items. So we asked Julie to come up with a list of things she would ideally like to see in the Shop, in addition to the current range. Julie can tell us what happened next. . |
|
“When they asked me to suggest some lower cost items to sell in the Shop, I thought it would be better to find out what my friends would like as well, rather than just my own ideas. So when they all came round for coffee, we put our heads together and came up with a list of basics that would suit everyone.
Although it’s nice to have the fancy Deli products on sale, (I bought some of the sun dried tomatoes – they were great!), those are more for special treats, not everyday shopping. So our list included things like cheaper sandwiches, pies and pasties, and everyone’s favourite, fresh cut ham. These would be in addition to the range already there so they can cater for everyone’s taste.

Val gets a pleasant surprise!
| Many
thanks to everyone who returned the recent shop survey. The results
of the questionnaire showed that some people are concerned about our
prices. So we asked one of our customers, Val Montgomery from Downlands,
to do a price check*. |
| “Since the Shop opened, I always expected the prices would be a bit high,” says Val. “But I never actually compared them with the supermarkets and when I did I got a pleasant surprise.” “I found several things - sugar, PG Tips tea bags, Ambrosia rice & custard and the loose rice - are actually cheaper at the Village Shop than Tesco and Sainsbury. And Weetabix, kitchen rolls and toilet rolls are about the same. Of course supermarkets are still a bit cheaper on a lot of things but for our top-up shop there’s not a huge difference.”
“The
prices are really pretty good, especially when you think of petrol
costs for going into town. And it’s so convenient. It would be a shame
for everyone if it had to close.” |
