The Rising Sun

Garston Gallopers at The Rising Sun Stockcross on Wednesday the 23rd of May

Icknield Morris Men invited us to join them to dance at The Rising Sun in Stockcross in the evening on Wednesday 23rd May. Ridgway Step Clog were also guests for the event. It was a beautiful evening, sunny and warm, and darkness fell much later than we’d expected so we able to dance until nearly 10pm.
The three groups took turns to dance, starting with Icknield. They are a long-established Morris side from south Oxfordshire with a lot of members. Several of their dancers are also musicians, so they danced to a variety of instruments including a concertina and a penny whistle.
Ridgeway brought with them their portable wooden floor which fits together like a jigsaw. Their clogs make an excellent sound on the wood, and their dances are extremely precise.
Our newest member, Diane, danced with us for only the second time, wearing her ‘L’ plate on top of her Gallopers kit. She says she doesn’t feel so bad about making a mistake if the audience know she’s a beginner.  A good time was had by all.
