The Village Fete

With the
annual - round the village race completed, the official opening
of the fete itself was now about 25 minutes away. Raymond Baker
and Adele Porter busied themselves with the BBQ preparations as
families selected a picnic spot, and began to settle in for the
event. (below right) - Police Community Support Officer, Lee Bremner drops by the Millennium Field to cast a dutiful eye over the proceedings. |

However, we
weren't quite finished with the road based events. The parade of
Classic vehicles undertook two circuits of the village before threading
its way into the main field area. Here they would be available throughout
the day to anyone that wanted a closer look. |

A big

The 2010 Village Fete
The
fete was opened this year by Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall,
Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medallist and writer. Jane and her husband
Robert had already been hard at work earlier, judging the Flowers
and Produce from the East Garston Allotments Association. During
her opening speech, Jane mentioned that she had judged at a flower
and produce show last week in a village with a 150 year tradition
of shows - and our first year was up to the same standard!!
A fine testement indeed to all the members of the EG Allotments

The
first event of the afternoon was the Children's Fancy Dress Parade.
The glorious September sunshine enhancing the children's costumes
to the max, producing a glittering array of colourful characters.

 |
The formation of the East Garston Allotment Association allowed, for the first time, the inclusion of a produce show and stall. As well as vegetables, classes were included for flowers, flower arranging, baking and jam making. The younger members of the EGAA were not forgotten as the organisors had also provided plenty of things for the children to enter into. |
